AlluringBody (http://www.alluringbody.com)
Overall Score: 10
AlluringBody, founded in 2002 in Seattle, is a rarity in the body jewelry business. Not only do they create their own products, but they only use high-quality metals, diamonds, and gemstones. The gold is all nickel-free (to prevent skin irritation), the platinum is pure, and the diamonds are cut so well that it’s hard to believe they’re used for navel and nose jewelry instead of engagement rings.
The website is designed to highlight the company’s emphasis on quality and craftsmanship. You can tell you’re dealing with a classy operation, so while it may not be the best choice for someone whose budget is $3 for a belly ring, it’s easy to see why AlluringBody is among the top choices of people looking for body jewelry that will last for decades – and draw “wow”s from everyone who sees their products. What’s truly amazing is that they actually could advertise their competitive prices. You can get a real diamond from them for the same price that you pay for a cubic zirconia from some other companies. Read full review of AlluringBody…
Body Matters Gold (http://www.bodymattersgold.com)
Overall Score: 7
Body Matters Gold (BMG), based in England, retails precious metal, diamond, and gemstone body jewelry that they design and manufacture. Prices are competitive, considering they deal in relatively high-quality materials. For instance, a platinum belly bar with a 0.3 carat diamond will run you nearly $3,900, while a gold tragus pin with a 0.03 amethyst costs $148. The BMG website offers everything from navel jewelry and nose studs to jewelry for genital piercings and ear plugs. The site takes a slightly odd turn, however, when you wander into its link to custom guitar picks and its ad for buying your old jewelry.
It’s clear that the company is all about customization. Customers can choose the thickness and shaft length of their nose studs, which is great for people who are very experienced with ordering and wearing body jewelry. It may be a bit overwhelming if you’re a newbie, however, and you’re out of luck if you order a bar that’s too short. To prevent an incorrect order, BMG has a printable size guide right on the site that allows customers to visualize the dimensions of belly bars, ball closure rings, nose studs, and more. Overall Score: 4 Overall Score: 4
This website is a good reminder that bigger isn’t necessarily better. Featuring every kind of jewelry imaginable – watches, tennis bracelets, earrings, rings, necklaces, and a few pages of belly rings – the phrase “jack of all trades and master of none” comes to mind. All of their products are made of gold and diamonds, which means it’s investment jewelry, and it’s hard to feel confident about your purchase when the site is crammed full of…stuff.
The company, which is headquartered in New York’s Jewelry District, maintains that it manufactures all of the jewelry it offers – cutting out the middleman – which is why their prices are so low. However, while the prices may not be higher than some other sites, they don’t appear to be lower either. Cost per piece ranges from $175 for a 14K gold barbell with .11 carats of diamonds to $1,995 for a dangling 14K gold belly ring with 1.65 carats of diamonds, but most prices are somewhere in the middle. And considering that you can get comparable or even lower prices from specialty companies offering a much larger selection (there are fewer than 20 belly rings to choose from), why wouldn’t you? Overall Score: 4
Even with a name that specific, it’s still surprising that, with the exception of a small amount of toe rings and earrings, the only things you’ll find on Qualitynosestuds.com are products for nose piercings (and some jewelry for non-pierced noses). The four-year-old Canadian company is a wholesaler, catering to customers whose purchasing decisions are probably based primarily on price. Prices start at $2.99 and go as high $299 for a 14K gold nose bone with 0.l carat diamond. There are a few pieces with diamonds, but the jewelry is mostly manufactured with cubic zirconias (CZs) and crystals.
The company is upfront about distributing products manufactured by other companies, but it doesn’t offer any information about those manufacturers. There is a “links” section that consists of different jewelers, but whether they’re the ones behind the jewelry offered on Qualitynosestuds or simply advertisers isn’t clear. Since they don’t appear to create their own jewelry, it’s surprising that they offer the option of custom-designed pieces for clients don’t see the design they’re looking for or want to put their own stone into a setting. Piercingdot.com (http://www.piercingdot.com)
Overall Score: 4
Piercingdot.com is the perfect destination for people who are loud and proud about their piercings. The company, which is located in New Jersey, carries some fairly inconspicuous pieces, but most of the stock is dedicated to those who want to make a statement. Customers can choose from items such as nearly two-inch-long tusks made from mother-of-pearl, a navel piercing with crystals that spell out “eat me,” or an eyebrow ring with a koosh ball on either end.
The selection of jewelry is impressive, with some categories offering 70-plus pages of products. There’s body jewelry for every piercing customers could possibly have: from noses and navels to nipples and tongues. The prices are also unbelievably low. You can pick up a curved barbell belly piercing made of stainless steel for $2.99. In fact, prices don’t go much over $100, and very few products even approach that. However, it you’re looking for body jewelry with real gemstones, you’re out of luck. Most of the jewelry with “gems” is actually made with swarowski crystals or CZs. In fact, there didn’t appear to be any products featuring real diamonds or gemstones. Read full review of Piercingdot.com…

Overall Score: 3
There are some things to like about Rings4piercings.com, but their website isn’t one of them. The company, located in Boca Raton, Fla., offers customer incentives including free shipping and 30-day returns and exchanges, but the site is so amateurish that it’s almost hard to trust in their accuracy. Also, some of the products themselves are given odd names like “twisty circular barbell” that makes the company seem like it isn’t in the same league as some of the more upscale sites out there.
Because the company offers lower quality products such as cubic zirconia in addition to gemstones and diamonds, some of the prices are very low. You can purchase a nose ring with a CZ for $15, for example. On the other hand, some of the prices seem high for the quality being offered. For example, Rings4piercings advertises a belly button ring with a CZ for $99, while you can get body jewelry with a real diamond for the same price from other online retailers. The highest price point is a dangling belly button piece with a sapphire or ruby and 0.41 total carat weight of diamonds for $1,499. Read full review of Rings4piercings.com…
